Investigation in progress

The Prizes and Betting Secretariat (SPA), linked to the Ministry of Finance, released this Tuesday (1st) the list of bets authorized to operate legally in Brazil.

According to information provided earlier by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, unregulated companies will be definitively suspended within 10 days.

The 10-day period is so that bettors can request a refund of amounts deposited in bookmakers that have not passed regulatory scrutiny.

According to Haddad, betting houses that are still in the accreditation process “will be able to remain in operation in compliance with regulations and if they do not become accredited by the end of the year or do not pay the grant, they will also go offline”.

The list of authorized companies is available in the Betting Management System (Sigap). In total, 88 were authorized betting houses in the country.

Advertising, Pix and Bolsa Família

Haddad also met with the National Council for Advertising Self-Regulation (Conar) and the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (Abert) to determine measures against “harassment from television and other media”.

The minister also said that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is “inclined” to decide to block the Bolsa Família card used to pay for online bets.

According to a survey released by the Central Bank (BC), last week, the monthly volume of transfers via Pix from individuals to online betting companies varied between R$18 billion and R$21 billion this year.

BC data also shows that beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família program who place sports bets online spent R$3 billion on betsvia Pix, only in August.

Last week, the president of the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), Isaac Sidney, defended that payment with Pix for online bets be suspended.
