Libertadores: policing will be reinforced for Flamengo and Peñarol – Diário do Amapá
This Thursday (19), Flamengo and Peñarol will face each other in a match valid for the Libertadores. In addition to the result on the field, the Uruguayan club fears for the safety of fans in Rio de Janeiro and, therefore, contacted Flamengo and met with the Federal Police of Rio de Janeiro and the Uruguayan Consulate in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
The concern is due to fights between the teams that took place in 2019, on Leme beach, in the South Zone. At the time, dozens of Uruguayans were detained, and a Flamengo fan even died.
According to information released by BEPE, after a meeting with the consulate, at the PMERJ General Headquarters, it was decided that Peñarol fans will stay at a campsite, in the west of the city, and will leave the location with a police escort to the stadium, and after the duel, they will be escorted back.
There will be 750 police officers, including Bepe, with support from personnel, Cavalry, Shock, Recom, BAC, Gam for the confrontation.
