The draw for the Copa Libertadores da América was held on Monday night, at the headquarters of Conmebol, in Luque (PAR), and the highlight was the absence of a group of death. All keys, at least in theory, are balanced, with the favorites emerging. And all Brazilian clubs enter with real chances of reaching the round of 16.

The current champions, Flamengo, for example, have two debutantes in the competition in their group: Aucas (EQU) and Ñublense (CHI). Thus, only Argentine Racing should give more work to Rubro-Negro.

Another favourite, Palmeiras also shouldn’t face much difficulty to be leader of their group. Despite being traditional rivals in the competition, Barcelona (EQU), Bolívar (BOL) and Cerro Porteño (PAR) do not have the technical level to overcome the Brazilian champion. More complicated, Abel Ferreira’s team must be at an altitude of 3,600 m from the city of La Paz, where Bolívar plays its games.

The national clubs that should face more difficulties in the group stage are Fluminense, who will face the always dangerous River Plate (ARG), The Strongest (BOL) and Sporting Cristal (PER); and Corinthians, who will face Independiente Del Valle (EQU), Argentinos Juniors (ARG) and Liverpool (URU).

The only Brazilian confrontation in the group stage will be in Chave G, between Athletico-PR and Atlético-MG. The two clubs decided on the 2021 Copa do Brasil, with the title remaining for the Minas Gerais team. Alongside Libertad (PAR) and Alianza Lima (PER), both teams have real chances of passing.

And closing the national teams, Internacional has all the conditions to finish Group B in the lead, having Nacional, from Uruguay, as its main rival.

In this phase of the Libertadores, the four teams play each other within the group, in round-trip matches. The top two qualify for the round of 16, the third place will play in the round of 16 playoff of the Copa Sudamericana with the second place in each group of that competition.
