Leadership must go beyond the worn-out divisions of left and right – 09/30/2024 – Michael França
Many leaders prefer the path of deception to the hard work of real leadership. They play on our fears, manipulate our emotions, and sell simplistic solutions to complex problems. Instead of uniting, they divide. Instead of trying to tell the truth, they distort it.
But it’s not just about talking, it’s about listening. To really listen. True leadership is not based on empty slogans, but on facing reality honestly, on offering a vision that inspires, and on reminding us all that what unites us will always be stronger than what divides us. We don’t need leaders who fuel our divisions, but those who are willing to do the work of learning and building coalitions.
Leadership that elevates requires moral courage, a commitment to truth, and a vision that extends beyond the electoral cycle. It demands that we put people’s well-being ahead of our personal interests and work to build a nation where everyone can prosper. In this construction, it is always desirable that there be political renewal. Because, in a rapidly changing world, we need leaders who reflect the hopes and challenges of the new times.
To overcome the adversities that are posed, we do not need politicians who rely on slogans or inflammatory speeches. Nor those who raise some outdated left or right flags as if they were absolute truths. A true leader knows that the path to progress depends on concrete actions, based on what we learn through serious research, rigorous studies and attentive listening to the voice of the people.
He understands that, more than winning elections, the duty of a public servant is to transform this knowledge into policies that really change people’s lives. Because, at the end of the day, what defines a good politician is not fleeting popularity or electoral play, but the impact he leaves on the lives of those he has sworn to serve.
Leadership is seeking to go beyond ideologies to seek to make the greatest positive impact on the lives of citizens. It is not about blindly following a doctrine or belief, but acting in accordance with values that contribute to the full development of human potential.
That’s why I believe in a policy project that seeks to unite, not divide. Who seeks to serve, not serve himself. A policy that understands that a country’s strength does not come from exclusion, but from inclusion. A strength that comes from collective construction in which the other is not seen as an enemy, but as a potential partner.
For this to happen, we need leaders who understand that the true power to impact people’s lives comes not from manipulation, but from inspiration. That this power is not built through polarization, but through dialogue. A dialogue that goes beyond the worn-out divisions of left and right.
