Senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) presented this Monday (29) a request for a repudiation motion against the visit of the Venezuelan dictator, Nicolás Maduro, to Brazil. Maduro was received by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), at the Planalto Palace, with head of state honors.

Girão asks for the insertion of a “vote of repudiation of the Honorable President of the Republic Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, due to his friendly relationship with the recognized dictator Nicolás Maduro and the reception on Brazilian soil with honors of Head of State”. In the Chamber, federal deputy Marcel van Hattem (Novo-RS) presented a “motion of repudiation of the official visit to Brazil” by Maduro.

“The coming of the dictator Nicolás Maduro to Brazil signals a serious message from our country in the international political scene. At the very least, omission and complacency of the current Brazilian Government with the dictatorial, corrupt and oppressive regime that it maintains in Venezuela. It is not too much to remember the countless violations of human rights and the destruction of the rule of law in Venezuela”, says an excerpt from the justification.
