Project advocates raising awareness among society, in general, about risk situations that may involve the respective vehicles

Manaus (AM) – Bill No. 40/2023, authored by state deputy Joana Darc (UB), is being processed in the Amazonas Legislative Assembly (Aleam), which intends to establish the “Autista a Bordo” seal, to be granted to people with the disorder. Autism Spectrum (ASD) in the state. The estimate is that Brazil has around 2 million autistic people, in a country of 200 million inhabitants, which means that 1% of the population would be on the spectrum.

The project advocates raising awareness among society, in general, about risk situations that may involve the respective vehicles. For the parliamentarian, the inclusion of autistic people in Amazonas is extremely important, so that their needs are recognized and met, including in traffic.

“The seal will not be part of traffic inspection, but will serve as a mechanism to raise awareness and identify vehicles that transport autistic people. Publicizing this subject is necessary due to the high rate of occurrence of ASD cases, which are growing in Brazil, as people are seeking early diagnosis”,

commented.

Indexes in the Country

In Brazil, with its more than 210 million inhabitants, the estimate is that the country has around two million autistic people. A very significant number of people need to have their needs recognized and met, including in traffic.

“In this sense, it is worth considering that public policies for this population affect not only the diagnosed individuals, but also their families and, in third analysis, the entire society”,

highlighted Joana Darc.

Furthermore, the diagnosis of ASD presupposes the need to create support mechanisms and specific public policies for the inclusion of these individuals with significant deficits in communication and social interaction, in addition to restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior.

About Autism

ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by atypical development, behavioral manifestations, deficits in communication and social interaction, repetitive and stereotyped behavior patterns, and may present a restricted repertoire of interests and activities.

It is worth remembering that the expenses arising from the execution of this Law will be borne by specific budget allocations, supplemented if necessary. The Executive Branch may issue the necessary regulations for the faithful execution of the proposal.
