Four nominees for boards at the Itaipu plant had their names approved this Friday (24) by ENBPar (Empresa Brasileira de Participações em Energia Nuclear e Binacional), the holding company that controls the hydroelectric plant. Subsequently, the names were published in a special edition of the DOU (Official Gazette).

The Technical Directorate was with Renato Sacramento. Lawyer Iggor Gomes Rocha was approved for the Administrative Board. As already announced by the general director of Itaipu, Enio Verri, the names of lawyers Luiz Fernando Delazari for the Legal Board and Carlos Carboni for the Coordination Board were confirmed.

The Financial Board remains vacant. What is told behind the scenes is that there is an arm-wrestling between PT and PSD over the chair.

Sacramento made his career at Eletrobras and is a respected technician. His appointment had the support of former president Dilma Rousseff and former executive secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Energy Maurício Tolmasquim, who participated in the transition of government. The name from Sacramento even competed for the vacancy with the nomination of Valter Cardeal, also close to Dilma.

Delazari worked with former Paraná governor Roberto Requião. His nomination, say people close to the company, had the support of lawyer Luiz Carlos Rocha, Rochinha, who is close to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Carboni was Gleisi Hoffmann’s (PT) chief of staff when she was Minister of the Civil House. He is linked to family farming movements and there is an expectation that his work can redirect the socio-environmental policy at the plant, currently focused on infrastructure works.

Rocha, in turn, is part of the cabinet team of Deputy Aliel Machado (PV-PR). Those who follow the transition at the hydroelectric plant say that Machado may indicate a name for Itaipu after he had to give up his candidacy in the dispute for a vacancy in the Chamber’s secretariat in favor of deputy Maria do Rosário (PT-RS).

Some maintain the expectation that the Financial Directorate may stay with former federal deputy Pedro Guerra (PSD-PR). He is the son of Alceni Guerra, a former Minister of Health who was a federal deputy for three terms and secretary of state in Paraná. The Alceni family has the support of Vice President Geraldo Alckmin. Pedro supported Lula’s candidacy in Paraná.

Career servant, André Pepitone, who is leaving the financial management of Itaipu, is quoted to assume the presidency of the board of CCEE (Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber). The mandate of the current president, Rui Altieri, expires in April.
