International Coffee Day: today the world celebrates the drink – 10/01/2024 – Café na Prensa
International Coffee Day is celebrated on October 1st. The date is recognized by the ICO (International Coffee Organization) and the entity’s 77 Member States. Therefore, it is considered the “official” drink day around the world.
According to the ICO, the date is “an opportunity for coffee lovers to share their love for the drink and support the millions of farmers whose livelihoods depend on the harvest.”

October 1st, however, is not the only date on the calendar in honor of the drink. In Brazil, there are still those who celebrate a so-called World Coffee Day on April 14, but the date is not actually recognized internationally. It ends up being a “fake” world day.
Here, there is also National Coffee Day, which is recognized as the official date in Brazilian lands. It was established by Abic (Brazilian Coffee Industry Association) in 2005 and is celebrated on May 24th, which represents the beginning of the harvest in most of the country.
