Haddad says that up to 600 irregular betting sites will be banned in October and advises bettors to redeem money
Minister also informed that the government will prohibit the use of credit cards and Bolsa Família in betting. Advertising sector is ‘completely out of control’ and will be regulated, he said. Haddad says that 600 irregular BETs will go offline in the coming days The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, stated this Monday (30) that up to 600 online betting sites will be banned in Brazil in the coming days for presenting irregularities in relation to the approved legislation by the National Congress. In an interview with CBN radio, Haddad recommended that players redeem resources on these sites, to prevent money from being lost. The list of illegal bets to be banned should be published this Tuesday (1st). Operators must take down the sites from the 11th – the order will be made official by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). Haddad also announced that the government will adopt new measures and monitor, more harshly, rules that are already in force – such as monitoring bets by CPF, limiting payment methods and regulating company advertising (see below) . Google will ban advertisements for unregistered ‘bets’ in Brazil from this Monday “The first step will be to ban unregulated ‘bets’ from the Brazilian space. There are around 500, 600 betting sites that will go offline in the next few days Because Anatel will block access to these sites in Brazil. Sometimes the amount is blocked there for you. bet again”, the minister told CBN. Haddad also stated that the economic team will ban certain forms of payment for online betting, such as credit cards and also the Bolsa Família card. In August 2024 alone, 5 million Bolsa Família beneficiaries spent R$3 billion on bets. “None of this can be used to pay for bets. And we will monitor the evolution of bets and prizes CPF by CPF, as those who bet a lot and win little are generally psychologically dependent on the game. Those who bet little and win a lot , in general it is money laundering”, stated the Minister of Finance. Government wants to put restrictions on compulsive bettors in betting and games The Federal Attorney’s Office for Citizens’ Rights has already established a procedure to verify the impact of online betting on people in situations of social and economic vulnerability. And, on another front, at the request of general director Andrei Passos, the Federal Police opened a preliminary investigation to investigate the activities of international groups suspected of laundering money in the sports betting market. Minister Haddad also informed that the federal government wants to regulate online betting advertising, which, in his view, is “completely out of control”. “Tomorrow, I have a meeting with entities linked to the advertising sector, self-regulation, and we will address this issue. As there is regulation of tobacco and alcoholic beverage advertising, we must have the same zeal”, he explained. Illegal bets haven’t even started registration yet According to the Secretary of Prizes and Bets at the Ministry of Finance, Régis Dudena, current legislation in the country gives until the end of this year for bets to adapt to the new rules. These rules, according to him, already have a series of provisions to prohibit the use of credit cards, protect bettors and prevent crimes such as money laundering. “We began to identify the formation of two groups: one of serious companies, which wanted to act and came to the Ministry of Finance to ask for authorization. And a second, which we can call opportunistic. Which begins to exploit bettors in an uncontrolled way; in many cases, committing fraud; and, in the extreme, being used by organized crime to, for example, money launder”, said Dudena in an interview with Fantástico. Even before the deadline, however, the government decided to block bets that, until now, had not even begun their regularization processes. “If the process was opened in May and, until today, the company has not even requested authorization, I cannot recognize that it is in an adjustment period. We are restricting and saying: only those that requested authorization will be able to operate in this transition period”, explained. Special: betting regulation in Brazil
