Government sets date for clubs with banned bets to ‘clean’ uniforms

The Ministry of Finance established a maximum deadline for betting houses banned from closing their operations in Brazil. In addition to going offline, they will no longer be able to appear in sponsorship spaces on football club shirts.

Bets that are not on the list of those authorized by the government will no longer be able to operate in the country from October 11th. They will then be suspended in ten days. The determination was made by the Prizes and Betting Secretariat, linked to the Treasury.

These companies must make their platforms available for withdrawals by October 10th. Such bets will be prohibited from operating and must return bettors’ money. The ban also includes marketing actions, which will “clean” the uniforms of national elite clubs. Communication and advertising actions must be interrupted.

Five of the barred bets sponsor football teams in Series A and B. They are: Esportes da Sorte, Stake, Reals, Dafabet and Betvip.

THE Esporte da Sorte is a sponsor of five teams: Corinthians, Grêmio, Athletico, Bahia and Ceará; the top four of the national elite. The company has an agreement to inject another half a billion into these clubs, with more than R$300 million in Alvinegro in São Paulo alone.

Juventude, Amazonas, Coritiba, Guarani and Sport are the other teams sponsored by irregular bets. Only one Serie A club does not have any bookmaker sponsorship: Cuiabá; Palmeiras has an agreement with Esportes da Sorte for the women’s team. Everyone else prints a bet in some position on the uniform.
