Freixo wants to take Argentines to the coast of São Paulo – 03/24/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The president of Embratur (Brazilian Agency for the International Promotion of Tourism), Marcelo Freixo, began negotiations with the Government of São Paulo and with mayors to promote tourism on the north coast of São Paulo among neighboring countries — in particular, Argentines and Uruguayans. The idea is to revive the sector in the region, shaken by the heavy rains that caused landslides and deaths last month.

Freixo also intends to stimulate ecotourism on the south coast, which, according to him, has a “huge tourist potential”, but is not being used. “Those who seek nature and look at Brazil immediately think of the Amazon. Of course we encourage tourism throughout the country, but for someone coming from Argentina or Uruguay, it is much faster and cheaper to come to the coast of São Paulo” , it says.

One of the strategies studied by the agency is to promote negotiation rounds between Brazilian and foreign tour operators, so that packages at attractive prices are negotiated. Forms of direct communication with potential tourists are also analyzed, such as boosting publications on social networks aimed at specific audiences.

On Thursday (23), Freixo met with the Secretary of Government of São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab, to talk about promoting the tourist potential of the state’s coast. The day before, he had already spoken with authorities in the cities of São Sebastião, Santos, Peruíbe, Itanhaém and Mongaguá. “International tourism is very important for the economy of these municipalities, it generates jobs and income. It is a region that needs to recover its activity”, he says.
