“Fora Moraes” act this Sunday (29) in Belo Horizonte/MG
Senators and federal deputies opposing the Lula government (PT), in addition to state deputies from Minas Gerais, have repeatedly called for the demonstration for the impeachment of minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which will take place this Sunday (29 ) in Belo Horizonte, from 10am, at Praça da Liberdade.
The state of Minas Gerais was chosen because it is the stronghold of the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, who has resisted moving forward with impeachment requests against Moraes.
This Saturday (28), in a video calling the population to the act, senator Jorge Seif (PL-SC) related the “Fora Moraes” acts, which have been organized in different states, to the demonstrations that preceded the impeachments of former presidents Fernando Collor, in 1992, and Dilma Rousseff (PT), in 2016.
“No impeachment movement started within the National Congress. It always started through popular appeals and voter mobilization. This time is no different. We need to mobilize, demonstrate strength, volume and willingness to remove Alexandre de Moraes, the greatest dictator in the history of the Federative Republic of Brazil”, he declared.
The senator also asked the protesters to show “civility and indignation against so many acts of aggression against individual freedoms”.
Earlier, federal deputy Marcel van Hatten (Novo-RS) was another to request, on social media, the presence of protesters at the event in Belo Horizonte. When remembering the new fine, this time of R$ 10 million, which Moraes ordered this Friday (27) as a condition for unblocking the social network X in Brazil – in addition to charging R$ 300 thousand to the legal representative of , Rachel de Oliveira Villa Nova –, the parliamentarian classified the minister’s action as “extortion” and a new abuse.
“And it’s always on a Friday, during Brazilian ‘happy hour’, when people are paying less attention, that Alexandre de Moraes acts this way. That’s why Moraes’ impeachment is urgent,” he said. “Total pressure on the Senator and Rodrigo Pacheco to impeach those who act outside the law”, he continued.
Representative Cristiano Caporezzo (PL), from the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais, joined the chorus of calls. The parliamentarian classified the current tension involving the STF minister as “the biggest institutional crisis in the history” of the country and questioned the leniency of senators towards Moraes’ actions.
Looking at Pacheco, Caporezzo said that there is a “cowardly omission” on the part of the president of the Senate and asked for the presence of the population of Belo Horizonte to put “an end to this absurdity directly in the state of President Pacheco”.
Demonstration in Belo Horizonte also targets senators “on the fence” about impeachment
As determined by the People’s Gazettemore than 20 federal parliamentarians, from several states, confirmed their presence at this Sunday’s demonstration in Belo Horizonte, including three senators: Cleitinho (Republicanos-MG), Jorge Seif (PL-SC) and Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE).
According to an exclusive survey by People’s Gazettemore than 50% of senators did not take a position on the minister’s impeachment. So far, only 31 members of the legislative house have said they are in favor of opening the process, which depends on the “yes” vote of 41 senators.
