Dionísia is the first woman appointed as superintendent of the body in 163 years of Mapa

Manaus (AM) — Veterinarian Dionísia Soares Campos took on the role of superintendent of Agriculture and Livestock in Amazonas, an agency linked to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), of the Federal Government. The inauguration ceremony took place, on Friday (23), at the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam).

Dionísia is the first woman appointed as superintendent of the body in 163 years of Mapa. In her inauguration speech, she named products produced in the state and their respective municipalities of origin, highlighting the “bottlenecks” that hinder the full functioning of the production chain.

“Producing food in the state of Amazonas is an act of courage. There are many challenges facing agribusiness in our region. Mainly, having to combine commitments to preserve the Amazon forest with sustainable development and food security for our people”,

emphasized Dionisia.

The first major challenge facing the superintendency is the eradication of foot-and-mouth disease. According to data from the Agricultural and Forestry Defense Agency of the State of Amazonas (Adaf), currently, in only 13 municipalities in Amazonas and one partially, the herds have been declared immune to the disease: Apuí, Boca do Acre, Canutama, Eirunepé, Envira, Guajará, Humaitá, Itamarati, Ipixuna, Lábrea, Manicoré, Novo Aripuanã, Pauini and part of the municipality of Tapauá.

State deputy Sinésio Campos defended the resumption of investment in essential infrastructure work to end the state’s isolation from the rest of the country. “The rural producer is doing his job, his homework. But he can’t develop further if he can’t sell his production. We can’t let that happen. BR-319 is not a pedestrian road. It is a product flow route. That’s why we have to fight for it”, said Sinésio Campos.

Senator Omar Aziz also emphasized the importance of BR-319 both for the primary sector and for the dynamics of the state as a whole.

“Many people think that we are going to change the import and export transport mode of the Manaus Free Zone. This will not happen. It is important to understand the need for this highway since we have already had two sad events in Amazonas: the pandemic and now this drought. We needed to have BR-319 passable”,

said Omar.

Support for rural producers

For representatives of rural producers, Dionísia’s vision at the head of the body will be different. “I want to thank God for granting a position to another woman here in Amazonas. On behalf of family farming, of producers who produce healthy food within the state of Amazonas, I want to say that we are at a unique moment in the history of the Ministry”, said the president of the Federation of Agricultural Workers of Amazonas (Fetagri-AM), Edjane Rodrigues .
