Family optimism rises again after 5 months of decline – 09/30/2024 – Panel SA

The National Confidence Index, monitored by ACSP (São Paulo Commercial Association), broke a series of five months below one hundred points and returned to the level of optimism in September.

According to the association, the index closed the month at 103 points, 3% above that recorded in August, although 1.9% lower than September last year.

All economic classes showed more optimism, especially among the AB and DE segments. Performance by regions, in turn, was heterogeneous. The confidence of residents of the North and Central-West fell, but there was improvement in the other regions.

For ACSP, recovery results from more favorable perceptions about the current and future financial situation. The increase in income, driven by the booming job market and also by government transfers, helps to explain the most recent data.

“This improvement in consumer sentiment generated an increase in the willingness to purchase higher-value items, such as cars and properties, in addition to a greater propensity to purchase durable goods, such as refrigerators and stoves. Likewise, investment intentions, which largely depends on future expectations, it also showed significant growth”, says Ulisses Ruiz de Gamboa, economist at ACSP.

The survey was carried out with 1,679 families across the country.
