For consumers connected at low voltage, in the case of residential ones, the readjustment will be 6.01%. New tariff indexes come into effect as of this Wednesday (15). The board of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) approved this Tuesday (14) an average readjustment of 3.28% in the energy tariff charged to consumers of Enel RJ, the distributor that serves the state of Rio de Janeiro. The percentage of 3.28%, however, is an average considering all types of consumers. By type of consumer, Enel RJ’s average readjustment will be: – 4.91% for consumers connected to high voltage, such as large companies + 6.18% for consumers connected to low voltage, such as small businesses, except consumers residential + 6.01% for residential consumers The new tariff indexes come into effect as of this Wednesday (15). According to Aneel, Enel RJ’s costs are higher to serve consumers connected at low voltage, hence the difference between the two groups. While high voltage consumers will have a drop in energy tariffs, low voltage consumers will have an increase. Also contributing to the difference in readjustment between the two groups was the end of the discount for rural consumers, who are part of the low voltage. Enel RJ’s readjustment was made based on a process called “periodic tariff review”, carried out, on average, every five years. The objective is to adapt the contract to fund the investments and the operation. The agency’s directors also decided this Tuesday that the methodology for calculating Enel RJ’s non-technical losses, that is, energy thefts, popularly known as “gatos”, will be reassessed. This reassessment, however, will only have an impact in 2024. Millions of families fail to take advantage of the Social Electricity Tariff due to registration problems
