Energy consumption grows again after four months – 03/16/2023 – Panel SA

The fortnightly monitoring of electricity consumption in the country carried out by the CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber) had positive variation for the first time since October.

According to this week’s data, there were more than 69.5 thousand megawatts of energy consumed in February, an increase of 1.6% compared to the same period last year.

The CCEE says that the increase in consumption can be attributed to the heat, which drives the use of air conditioning, and to the high demand of some sectors for energy in the free market, which does not need the intermediation of distributors.

Also according to the entity, the cycle of heavy rains accelerated the production of hydroelectric plants, which generated in February about 57.5 thousand average megawatts for the SIN (National Interconnected System), says the CCEE. The result is 1.7% greater than the amount recorded last year. On the same basis of comparison, demand at thermoelectric plants fell by 38%.
