Electric car: Ford will give free chargers in the USA – 09/30/2024 – Market
Ford will offer free home chargers and installation to buyers of the brand’s electric vehicles in the United States until the end of the year, the automaker said on Monday (30).
“There’s no bigger obstacle than charging,” Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley told Reuters.
The free charger and installation will be given to customers who purchase or lease a Ford Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning pickup truck or E-Transit Cargo van from Oct. 1 through the end of the year, Ford said.
“We’ve spent all this time in the industry talking about charging on the road, and yet we’ve kind of overlooked the most basic charging solution for the United States,” said Farley, who declined to say how much the program will cost.
Marin Gjaja, chief operating officer of Ford’s electric division, said the company expects to “handle this with our existing finances.”
Ford is trying to reduce costs for its battery-powered models and faces a loss of US$5 billion (R$27.13 billion) in its electric vehicle unit this year.
Ford sold around 44,000 electric vehicles in the first half of the year, an increase of 72% compared to the previous year, making it the second largest brand in the category in the United States. Still, it is far behind Tesla, which delivered around 831,000 vehicles in the same period.
Customers who buy an electric Ford in the fourth quarter and already have a home charger or live in an apartment will be eligible to receive the equivalent of US$2,000 (R$10,850) in cash from dealers, the automaker said.
