director’s departure had “pan” and conflict with CEO

The exit of Leonardo Pantaleãoformer legal director of Corinthians, was quite turbulent. The report found that the relationship between the lawyer and board members had already been deteriorating in recent weeks.

Last Monday (30), the disagreements culminated in a letter from the director to President Augusto Melo asking for his resignation.

Asked about the events narrated in this text, Corinthians said that “issues linked to the administration and management of the club are dealt with internally”.

Corinthians: Pantaleão had discussion with CEO

Three days before resigning from his position, Leonardo Pantaleão had a discussion with Fred Luz, special operations consultant (CEO) at Corinthians.

The report found that the episode had great influence on the former director’s decision to leave his position.

According to sources close to Pantaleão, the discussion was motivated by his questioning the CEO about a possible extrajudicial recovery action for Corinthians.

The then legal director had received contact from several of the club’s advisors, last Thursday (26), who asked whether the club would enter the precautionary measure the following day. The matter had been circulating around Parque São Jorge for at least three weeks.

Then, the legal director questioned Fred over the phone, who was rude and stated that such contacts between counselors were “a lie.” From then on, the two had a heated argument, with exchanges of insults.

President Augusto Melo vehemently denies that Corinthians will request judicial or extrajudicial recovery, situations that could result in the sale of the club under the SAF model.

“Couple” in the Corinthians board

The report also spoke with members of the Corinthians Deliberative Council (CD) who point to a “scanning” of Leonardo Pantaleão by the current board. Several sources claim that he did not participate in any decisions at the club.

Furthermore, the proximity between the leader and the president of the CD, Romeu Tuma Jr., generated distrust, since Augusto Melo lost most of the support he had in the assembly.

The wear and tear would have been clearer between Pantaleão and Pedro Silveira, current financial director, with whom he had disagreements regarding the sending of information to the Guidance Council, the club’s important supervisory body. The wear and tear led to his retirement.

In a letter sent to the president of the CD, Cori complained about incomplete and inconsistent information about the monthly balance sheets sent by the department.

Furthermore, we inform you that since our last meeting, held on 8/27/2024 to examine the Financial Statements, movements and other matters of the first semester, we were not provided with the necessary explanations and in view of the numerous doubts, we decided to ‘suspend’ the meeting to present documents, carry out analysis and subsequent re-presentation. Letter sent by Cori to Romeu Tuma Jr.

In order to clarify the complaint and other matters relating to management, Tuma called an extraordinary meeting for the Council next Monday (7 October).
