Debate: See phrases from the candidates for mayor of São Paulo – 09/29/2024 – Power
The debate between the main candidates for Mayor of São Paulo, held this Saturday (28) by Record, was marked by attacks aimed at the leaders of the electoral polls, Ricardo Nunes (MDB) and Guilherme Boulos (PSOL).
After the voter witnessed episodes of aggression, this time there were no cases of violence. And the candidates did not raise their tone against their opponents as much as in previous programs.
Pablo Marçal (PRTB) was isolated by the rest of the candidates. He was also the only one warned for breaking the rules — in the first block, he referred to Boulos by the joking nickname “Boules”, apologized, but still received the punishment.
Tabata Amaral (PSB), José Luiz Datena (PSDB) and Marina Helena (Novo) also took part in the confrontation.
See below some phrases from the meeting:
VENEZUELA
Tabata Amaral cited the dictatorship in Venezuela to confront Guilherme Boulos about his position in relation to the neighboring country.
You said you were in favor of drug decriminalization, now you are against it. This week, you changed your position in relation to Venezuela, and said it is a dictatorship. But the party maintains the same positions
The PSOL candidate regretted the fact that his opponent had brought an international issue to the debate on the capital of São Paulo.
In a city the size of São Paulo, the mayor does not govern just for his party, just for his ideas, but for the entire city. That’s what I’m going to do
BARBES
Marçal and Nunes exchanged accusations in the first interaction between the two. The self-styled former coach asked the current mayor of São Paulo to explain the Federal Police investigation known as the daycare mafia.
I don’t want to be unfair to you, as I’m following [o caso] very close, but there is payment there in your name, in the name of family members. And I wanted you to give an explanation. Nobody is criticizing the city hall, we are showing the person who runs the city hall
The PF is investigating the mayor on suspicion of money laundering in the case — Nunes denies any wrongdoing. In the reply, the emedebista cited the influencer’s past with the courts, including the process that led to Marçal being arrested in 2005 and convicted of qualified theft in 2010.
That’s what matters [debater propostas]. Not this soft talk from those who don’t know São Paulo or those who had the chance and didn’t do it. Ricardo Nunes stayed for three and a half years. He had the chance. The city is worse
DEMOCRACY
José Luiz Datena, who took a shot at Pablo Marçal in the debate held by TV Cultura, spoke about the lessons learned from this electoral race and celebrated that the clash ended without violence.
Better to respect democracy than to be beaten. This was one of the biggest lessons of this campaign. And I think our word was kept, and democracy was respected here
Marina Helena took advantage of a clash with Guilherme Boulos to defend those detained for the depredation of public property in Brasília, on January 8th.
There are people who wrote [em monumento público] with lipstick and is far from family life to this day
WALK ALONE
Isolated by the rest of the candidates, Marçal gave a speech against the system.
My dream for the future of Brazil, and very close, is that we don’t need a political party to have electoral viability
TRIPE
Ricardo Nunes dodged when asked whether Jair Bolsonaro (PL) would nominate positions in his administration — Nunes’s deputy, Colonel Ricardo de Mello Araújo, was the former president’s choice.
Instead of answering the question, the current mayor praised Mello Araújo. Boulos criticized the colonel for saying that the police approach in the Jardins region must be different from the outskirts.
It’s unacceptable. I want to be mayor of São Paulo so that people living on the outskirts are treated in the same way. [mesmo jeito] than that of the Gardens
Nunes countered, citing Boulos’ trajectory in the homeless movement. He criticized the psolista for having recommended the filing of the case at the Chamber’s Ethics Council against federal deputy André Janones (Avante-MG) on suspicion of “cracking”.
You never did anything except go there and release Janones who cracked. His only major action as a politician was there, in addition to carrying out the invasions
TARGET
Marina Helena asked Guilherme Boulos if he supports the expropriation of companies and the fight against capitalism. The candidate responded, saying “what does this have to do with this?”, and attacked mayor Ricardo Nunes again.
That’s what matters [propostas para a cidade]. Not this soft talk from those who don’t know São Paulo or those who had the chance and didn’t do it. Ricardo Nunes stayed for three and a half years. He had the chance. The city is worse
TRAJECTORY
Guilherme Boulos defended himself from attacks on his career within the Homeless Workers Movement.
As mayor, occupation will not happen, because occupation only happens when there is no housing policy
AGE
Tabata Amaral responded to those who criticize her for being too young to take over as mayor.
They see and speak [sobre mim]: ‘It’s great, but it’s new’. And since when is being young a bad thing? There is a lack of people with energy, with willingness
TEMPERAMENT
Asked about his temperament, presenter José Luiz Datena said he will defend the people of São Paulo with courage.
As for your distemper statement, I’m sorry. I will respect democracy and the people and respond as politely as possible. If you were called the words I was called, for a crime I never responded to, I don’t know what your reaction would be. If they attack the people of São Paulo, they will have my defense with my courage
