Datafolha: Boulos cites hope, Nunes celebrates advantage – 10/17/2024 – Power

Ten days before the election, the Datafolha results released this Thursday (17) left the campaign of Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) even more apprehensive given the advantage of Ricardo Nunes (MDB).

The current mayor remains ahead with 51% compared to 33% for the deputy. The interviews were carried out on Tuesday (15) and Thursday (17) — a period in which thousands of São Paulo residents were still suffering from the consequences of the lack of electricity.

There was an expectation among those around Boulos to be able to turn over votes with the electorate’s dissatisfaction through the janitorial services of the Nunes administration and Enel itself, the city’s electricity concessionaire. The topic has even been the subject of debates and speeches since the weekend.

The analysis is that the focus on the blackout issue had an effect on wearing down the emedebista. However, it was not enough to alleviate the rejection surrounding the psolist.

In an interview, Boulos ignored the disadvantage. “This strengthens my hope for the turnaround that we will take in the next ten days. This journey has to symbolize a start, a start to turn votes”, he stated.

In internal assessments, PSOL supporters state that the negative swing for Nunes —which occurred within the margin of error— is a good sign and that one of the priorities now is to target undecided voters (12% in the spontaneous survey).

The order in Boulos’ committee is to fuel optimism to keep activists motivated in the final stretch and try to attract voters who opted for Pablo Marçal (PRTB) and Tabata Amaral (PSB) in the first round.

This Saturday (19), President Lula (PT) is also expected to participate in two events with the PSOL candidate on the outskirts.

Paula Coradi, president of PSOL, stated that it was already known that the second round would be a “very tough election”, but she believes in victory. She compared the second round to a football game decided in the last minutes.

“We cannot create the feeling that Nunes is trying to create. He is on a high note saying that he has already won. But the election is vote by vote and we are going after all the votes until October 27th,” she said.

“How many times have we seen candidates who were ahead in the polls and have major comebacks?”, adds the leader.

Nunes stated in a note that he received the Datafolha result “with humility”. “In these remaining ten days, the work continues and our mobilization will intensify. Boulos’ extremely high rejection shows that his aggressive and extremist stance has only alienated the São Paulo voter”, says the statement sent by the Emedebista campaign.

The mayor’s allies and campaign members celebrated that there was no drop outside the margin of error, even after the blackout that affected 2.1 million people, and see the maintenance of the wide advantage over Boulos as positive.

For these assistants, the result shows that the mayor demonstrated that he acted quickly and forcefully in relation to the electrical crisis, with concrete actions.

For the MDB campaign, Nunes’ focus in this second round is “mayor”, a recipe that has so far yielded results in their vision.
