Federal deputy Arthur Maia (União Brasil-BA), quoted to chair the CPMI of the January 8 acts in Congress, says that the commission’s investigations will take place “in the public square”, contrary to the work carried out by the Federal Police and by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

According to him, the central point of the investigation will be to clarify “with transparency” whether the attacks on the headquarters of the Three Powers were, in fact, an attempted coup d’état.

“We need to clarify for Brazil, to record in history what actually happened that day. We cannot trivialize and think that it was a normal thing to invade Congress, the Federal Supreme Court, the headquarters of the Executive, destroy everything. Even more so because has claims that it was an attempted coup d’état,” he said in an interview with Folha de São Paulo published this Monday (22).

The expectation is that the work of the CPMI will start effectively on Thursday (25th), with the installation and election of the members of the collegiate. There will be 32 parliamentary members, 16 senators and 16 deputies.
