Court suspends delivery of basic food baskets and removes PM command in Parintins

Judge Juliana Mousinho, from the 4th Electoral Zone of Parintins, ordered the suspension of the delivery of basic food baskets to needy families and the removal of the commander of the city’s Military Police, Major PM Francisco Magno Judiss da Silva, on suspicion of abuse of political power in the elections municipalities this year.

The decision was in response to a Judicial Electoral Investigation Action presented by candidate Mateus Assayag (PSD), from the “Parintins em Primeiro Lugar” coalition.

According to the judge, Assayag’s defense presented videos showing excerpts from a meeting, where actions to benefit candidate Brena Dianná were discussed.

“There is planning to use Cosama to operate in rural communities in order to garner votes, with direct support and accommodation from the organization being offered in another part of the video for Rocam police officers to stay in these locations. . It is also said, in the recording, that the police officers in the communities would not submit to Colonel Judiss, Commander of the Military Police in the Municipality of Parintins, they would just be ‘men from outside’”, highlighted the judge.

“Finally, the applicants indicate allegedly unfounded approaches that would have been carried out by Rocam police officers with supporters and family members of the candidates of the Coalition Parintins in First Place (of candidate Mateus Assayag)”, added the judge.

In addition to the decision to order the Amazonas Sanitation Company (Cosama) to suspend the delivery of basic food baskets in the city and remove PM lieutenant colonel Francisco Magno Judiss, the magistrate also ordered the immediate removal, with return to Manaus, of the military police officers from Ronda Ostensiva Cândido Mariano (Rocam), as well as agents from the Narcotics Investigation Department (Denarc) and other civil police officers who were assigned in the month of September 2024 to the Parintins Police Stations;

It was also determined that the guarding of the electoral boxes be carried out by the Armed Forces, which will arrive in the municipality this week, including and especially in rural areas, and that the Regional Superintendent of the Federal Police in Amazonas be requested to send reinforcements for the municipal elections.

The Government of Amazonas, in a statement, stated that the State’s security forces are committed to ensuring the safe holding of the elections, fulfilling their constitutional duty, and that there is no interference in this process.

“The State Government repudiates any type of articulation that aims to disrupt the electoral process and tarnish the serious work of the state security forces, using material with strong signs of manipulation and without judicial support”, says the statement.

The state government highlighted that the court decision is being complied with and is available to the courts to provide all necessary clarifications.

The União por Parintins coalition stated that it repudiates the attempt to link Brena Dianá’s candidacy for Mayor of Parintins to defamatory news, released through a video of unknown origin and with dubious content.

“Proof of this is that the Electoral Court of Parintins determined, this Tuesday (30), the removal of the publication made on the opposing candidate’s social networks, as well as the prohibition of the broadcast of the video and the association of the image of the councilor directly or indirectly to this content”, declared Dianá’s coalition.
