Could investigations stop the legalization of betting in Brazil? – 09/30/2024 – TV Folha
The federal government leads a process of regulating online sports betting, known as bets. There is still no projection of how much tax will be collected from this market.
The offer of sports betting sites has been available in Brazil since 2018, after a law approved by the Michel Temer (MDB) government. Jair Bolsonaro (PL) did not regulate the market and the Lula government has been dedicated to regulation since 2023, when a provisional measure was issued.
Celebrities such as Deolane Bezerra and singer Gusttavo Lima received arrest orders after investigations by the Civil Police of Pernambuco targeted an alleged criminal organization that was involved in illegal gambling and money laundering and had a turnover of almost R$3 billion.
To talk about the legalization of gaming and explain the relationship between betting and the case, presenter Priscila Camazano welcomes reporter Pedro Teixeira on Como É que É? this Monday (30).
