corrected after relating Fake News PL to application

Federal deputy Orlando Silva (PCdoB-SP), rapporteur for Bill 2.630/2020, known as PL das Fake News or PL da Censura, was denied by Twitter users after linking the proposal under discussion in the Chamber of Deputies with an app racist. The error was pointed out through the collaborative fact-checking program, called Community Notes, created by Twitter in December 2022.

Community Notes is an open system inspired by a Taiwanese digital democracy program, with working details exposed on the GitHub platform, one of the most popular for programmers. Through it, Twitter users can “add context” to correct a publication, which will only appear to everyone if it reaches a large number of people. Elon Musk himself, owner of Twitter, has already been flagged negatively by the platform’s community.

The deputy’s message, published this Wednesday (24), denounced the existence of a game in the official Google application store, the Play Store, called “Slavery Simulator”, with an incentive to racism. The deputy pointed out that initiatives like this would show the “urgency of regulation of the digital environment”. “PL 2630 is a step in that direction by regulating part of this ecosystem, which is broader. The regulation of digital platforms is an imperative of civilization against barbarism! PL 2630 YES!”, he wrote.

Twitter users, then, through Community Notes, added the information that the PL under discussion in the Chamber does not address app stores, as stated by the deputy.

“It is false that PL 2630 can be applied to app stores. If approved, it will be applied to social networks, search engines, instant messaging services and streaming providers. Google,” they pointed out.
