Corinthians sponsor is left out of the Treasury’s list to operate bets – 10/01/2024 – Sports

Esportes da Sorte, Corinthians’ main sponsor, was not authorized by the Ministry of Finance to operate with sports betting in Brazil.

The company is not on the list published by the department on Tuesday night (1st). The club’s former sponsor, Vai de Bet, is also not included in the document.

By rule, only bets accredited by the federal government can sponsor clubs.

” Esportes da Sorte has complied with all the requirements of the ordinances since September 20th. We are already in contact with SPA [Secretaria de Prêmios e Apostas] for rectification”, stated the company, in a note.

THE Sheet He contacted Corinthians, but had no response so far. The company also sponsors Athletico, Bahia and Grêmio.

Government members already foresee a legal battle in several cases like these.

Esportes da Sorte is still being investigated in the same case of suspected money laundering involving influencer Deolane Bezerra and singer Gusttavo Lima.

PixBet, a sponsor of Corinthians before the Augusto Melo administration, is on the list as authorized by the Treasury.

The bookmaker had a contract with the São Paulo team, but Melo broke it, and later signed with Vai de Bet — the case led to the club’s accounts being blocked.

The list has the name of the companies and the corresponding websites. Bets left out of the list published by the Treasury can no longer provide betting games in Brazil until they obtain final authorization from the government — with the exception of betting houses that operate with state concessions.

The Ministry of Finance recommends that users collect money deposited on betting sites that will no longer operate. The deadline for withdrawing resources is October 10th.

The list is made up of companies that requested authorization from the federal government until September 17th to operate betting sites in Brazil.

Bets have been released in Brazil since the end of 2018, but there was no regulation during the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government. Last year, the Lula (PT) government began this process to establish rules for operating and collecting taxes.

A law was approved last year in Congress, in addition to the publication of a series of acts by the Ministry of Finance. Companies seeking to operate legally should register with the Ministry of Finance. The official start of operation of the legal market, with the payment of taxes, for example, begins in January 2025.

Until then, it is considered a transition period. But on September 17th, the government published an ordinance in which it set deadlines.

It defined that, from October 1st, only websites that have requested to be accredited would be considered legal. The act was accompanied by pressure from sectors such as banks, retail and reactions in Congress against betting.
