Corinthians have accounts blocked after failing to comply with agreement with Pixbet – 10/01/2024 – Sports
Corinthians had an immediate block of amounts in bank and investment accounts decreed by the TJ-SP (São Paulo Court of Justice), this Tuesday (1), for failing to comply with an agreement with Pixbet, the club’s former sponsor.
Corinthians’ original debt with the bookmaker was R$40 million, after the unilateral termination of the contract following the arrival of Vai de Bet.
The parties had reached a consensus on paying the full debt in installments until 2025. However, the São Paulo team did not comply with the payment terms.
“At the time [da rescisão]we managed to seize the club’s accounts, and an agreement was signed between the parties. However, Corinthians stopped paying after the seventh installment, which led us to resume execution to collect the outstanding installments, in addition to fines and legal fees”, explained Nelson Wilians, Pixbet’s lawyer.
The court may also consider the seizure of income from Brazilian Championship matches and sponsorship received by the club, if sufficient resources are not found or blocked to pay off the debt.
In contact with the report, Corinthians has not yet commented on the case.
Pixbet went to court demanding that Corinthians’ accounts be blocked due to breach of contract by the club, which terminated the sponsorship contract without just cause.
According to the company, “by breaking the agreement, the club violated Pixbet’s preemptive and exclusivity rights, choosing to join VaideBet without fulfilling contractual obligations, such as paying the fine and returning the gloves.”
Pixbet had an agreement to be the master sponsor of Corinthians for R$75 million, made with former president Duílio Monteiro Alves. The link to display his brand on the shoulder of the shirt ran until the end of 2025.
