Councilors and deputies say they will defend the rights of the population

Manaus (AM) – The mayor of Manaus (CMM), councilor Caio André (PSC), declared, this Monday (29), that the Chamber will appeal against the court’s decision so that the fines provided for the installation of ‘aerial meters’ do not be charged to the Amazonas Energia company.

“We are going to take the appropriate legal measures, the Chamber will not bend in any way to this attempt, once again, to impose the will of the company that is a public service concessionaire, before that public that uses the concession, are the users who absolutely do not want the implementation of these aerial gauges”,

declared the president of the CMM.

The decision by Judge Ricardo Sales, holder of the 3rd Federal Civil Court of the Judiciary Session of Amazonas, released this week, grants the injunction for not charging the fine for the facilities, transferring the penalty to the city hall, in case the municipal management insists on carrying out the fine process, will be liable to pay double the amount that would be charged to Amazonas Energia.

The state deputy, Mario César Filho (União Brasil), in a note to the In timestated that the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam) and the CMM defend the interests of the population and that the pressure that the company has been applying will not bring results, but that it leaves the population insecure.

“The Judiciary, in turn, has already given numerous decisions in favor of the population and others in favor of the company, which demonstrates that even the magistrates are in doubt about the legality and morality of the new meters. This decision does not bring immediate changes to the population, since the installation of the meters remains prohibited by an injunction granted by Judge Lafayatte Carneiro, of the Court of Justice of Amazonas. Furthermore, I do not believe that pressure from the company will bring results, however, the situation has been bringing insecurity for the population”,

said the deputy.

Manaus City Hall, through the Municipal Attorney General’s Office (PGM), reported that it was notified of the court’s decision and will appeal against the decision.

Wanted by the team In time, councilor Allan Campelo’s (PSC) advisory, when asked whether pressure from the company Amazonas Energia on the new aerial meters will bring results, replied that the parliamentarian preferred not to give an opinion on the subject and limited himself to saying that visually the city would be more polluted. Regarding the court decision, the press office informed that the decision has to be fulfilled, but that they intend to fight for the rights of the people.

“Because it is a court decision, it has to be complied with. It’s a fact. It is up to the city hall to appeal, of course, and we councilors are representatives of the Manaus people. We will always fight for the interests of the population’,

stated.

Municipal Law nº 3.024/2023, was a bill authored by councilor Caio André, which included a new single paragraph to article 1 of Municipal Law nº 2.208/2017, prohibiting the installation of electric energy measurement systems, fixed in power poles, the ‘aerial meters’.

Amazonas Energia declared that ‘the aerial meters’ are part of a modernization process in the distribution and quality of energy offered to the people of Amazonas. In the arguments presented by the company to the court, they informed that there were divergences in relation to the federal legislation of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).
