Chocolate industry breaks record for launches for Easter 2023

The chocolate industry is looking forward to the arrival of Easter 2023, the most important time of the year for the sector. In 2022, more than 10 thousand tons of eggs were sold in Brazil, 13% growth compared to 2021. This year, despite the uncertain economic scenario, the sector is heated. There are 163 new products and handmade chocolates are still on the rise.

According to the Brazilian Association of the Chocolate, Peanut and Candy Industry (Abicab), which compiled last year’s production data, the number of launches in 2023 is the highest since 2015, when the association began to count them.

In 2023, 440 Easter items will be placed on the market by the industry, with 163 launches.

A survey by Kantar, a global data, insights and consultancy company, points to handmade eggs as a consumer preference at Easter this year. According to the survey, these products have an average price per kilo R$52 less than the industrialized one. And this difference has been reflected in sales: the survey says that artisanal eggs already represent almost half of the total volume sold.

In Curitiba, the artisanal chocolate company, D’Fuhrmann Chocolates, expects to earn 15% more at Easter 2023 than in the same period last year. According to Ana Cecília Dembiski Erbano, managing director of D’Fuhrmann Chocolates, souvenirs continue to be a trend, but with an average ticket higher than in 2022.

Therefore, the company reinforced the stock of boxes with 12 mini eggs and also in boxes of truffles and various bonbons. All to serve a varied clientele, who spend between R$40 and R$400 at this time of year.

But when the subject is sales champion, the consumer tends to the traditional Easter Egg. In 2022, 36.2% of Brazilian households consumed chocolate eggs, an increase of 12.5% ​​compared to 2020 (Kantar).

At D’Fuhrmann Chocolates, Ninho’s has been the favorite of recent years, and is available in three sizes, to suit all pockets: 120g (R$ 26), 240g (R$ 52) and 420g (R$ 128).
