Cármen Lúcia criticizes X: ‘Brazil is no one’s backyard’ – 09/30/2024 – Power
The minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) and president of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), Cármen Lúcia, responded this Monday (30) to the speech of the candidate in São Paulo Pablo Marçal (PRTB) that “women don’t vote for women” .
On TV Cultura’s Roda Viva program, she reiterated the importance of female participation as a civilizing advance, in contrast to what the influencer claimed in the debate between candidates for mayor of the capital of São Paulo held by Sheet and UOL, also this Monday.
“Intelligent is the person who thinks that women and men are equal in rights and that they have the right to participate in a society in which 52% of the Brazilian population and 52% of the electorate are women, to say that a woman does not vote for a woman would really be beyond any factual data.”
During an interview, Cármen Lúcia also criticized the stance of businessman Elon Musk’s X (former Twitter), in Brazil, and argued that the blockade occurred to enforce Brazilian law, which is sovereign.
“In a sovereign State, all of us, citizens, and all those who work here, companies, platforms, which are still companies, have to comply with the country’s law. It’s like that everywhere, Brazil is not smaller, the Brazil is no one’s backyard, Brazil is a sovereign state that needs to have its rights respected in order to give respect, and we did that”, argued the minister.
“Why does a company think it can treat Brazil as if Brazil were something that can be absolutely disdained?”, reiterated the president of the TSE.
The minister is part of the First Panel of the Supreme Court, which unanimously declared itself at the beginning of September to maintain the suspension of the former Twitter in Brazil, as determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
She stated in her vote that “a company was not banned in Brazil in the decision under examination, no one was excluded from any service that is legitimately provided and used.”
“Compliance with the law was required for the benefit of all people, by all natural or legal persons, national and non-national.”
The network has been blocked for exactly a month, after Musk failed to comply with Moraes’ monocratic decision to appoint, within 24 hours, a legal representative in the country.
