Candidates point out Folha/UOL debate as dynamic – 09/30/2024 – Power

The use of time bank used in the debate Sheet/UOL, held this Monday (30), was evaluated as dynamic by the majority of candidates for Mayor of São Paulo.

In it, the candidate himself had to manage the duration of the speeches within the established limit of 20 minutes for each one. This was the first debate of the São Paulo campaign this year with this format.

Each candidate could speak in any answer, even if the question had not been addressed to him. To do this, you should signal with your hand that you would like to do so. When he started speaking, his time started to be deducted until the end of his speech.

The time bank format adopted by the debate Sheet/UOL this Monday (30) debuted in Brazil in 2018 during a meeting of SheetUOL and SBT with candidates for vice president of the Republic that year.

The mayor and candidate for re-election, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), who ended up running out of time before the others, assessed the format as interesting, but had reservations about the possibility of a candidate’s final time being used to “attack” the others.

“As I am the mayor and many attacks have taken place, I needed to be able to highlight the issues at all times”, he argued. “I just didn’t imagine, and would never do this, using this bank of hours to end up attacking.”

Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) assessed the format as dynamic and said it gave the opportunity for more direct confrontations between the candidates, highlighting, however, that this would not always have been done with “due respect”.

“It was a good, dynamic format,” he said. “The dynamics favor a more direct clash between the candidates, even more so in the final stretch.” According to him, in addition to discussing the proposals, the debate is important to know who is who.

Pablo Marçal (PRTB) praised the dynamic nature of the format and said that the debate was of a high level. “It was the best debate ever,” he said. He said the meeting was of a “high level” and criticized Nunes for failing to control her time.

Candidate Tabata Amaral (PSB) considered the format of the debate to be very good. “It’s a shame that my opponents didn’t know how to respect each other,” she said, claiming to have managed to show proposals and manage time well.

“The dynamics allowed me to differentiate myself and show voters that I am the best prepared.”

Each candidate could use a maximum of 5 minutes of their time bank on the same answer. The meeting had four blocks, two of them with questions from journalists and the other two with questions from candidates.
