Candidates in SP face each other in a debate Folha/UOL – 09/29/2024 – Power
The main candidates for Mayor of São Paulo will face each other this Monday (30), at 10 am, in a debate promoted by Sheet and by UOL.
Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), influencer Pablo Marçal (PRTB) and federal deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB) confirmed their presence. The debate will be broadcast on the websites of Sheet and UOL.
This will be the first debate of the São Paulo campaign this year with the time bank format, in which the candidate himself manages the duration of the speeches within an established limit.
This Monday, this limit will be 20 minutes. Each candidate may use a maximum of 5 minutes of their time bank for the same answer. The meeting, with four blocks, will last 90 minutes in total.
Each candidate may speak in any answer, even if the question was not addressed to him or her. To do this, you must signal with your hand that you would like to do so. When you start talking, your time will start to be deducted. The timer will lock again when he finishes speaking.
The organization initially invited the three best-positioned candidates in the Datafolha survey. Then, he also called Tabata, which appears numerically in fourth place.
The institute’s most recent survey, released last Thursday (26), shows a scenario of stability. Nunes, with 27%, and Boulos, with 25%, lead the race. Marçal maintained third place, with 21%, and Tabata scored 9%. The margin of error is two percentage points, plus or minus.
Sheet and UOL provided a security team inside and outside the studio and accepted different suggestions made by the candidates’ teams.
On the 23rd, in a debate organized by Flow Podcast, an advisor to Marçal, Nahuel Medina, attacked Nunes’ marketer, Duda Lima. Previously, in a debate on TV Cultura on the 15th, José Luiz Datena (PSDB) took a shot at Marçal.
On Friday (27), the São Paulo Court ordered a protective measure for the marketer against Nahuel, who did not attend the TV Record debate on Saturday (28).
Nunes’ allies believe that the time bank format in the debate on Sheet and UOL is a challenge because of Marçal’s unpredictable behavior. The tendency is to use the same strategy as him — if the influencer decides to save his time, the mayor should follow the same line, to prevent his rival from talking alone later.
Nunes’ team also intends to use the right of reply to respond to Marçal’s attacks, thus preserving time to discuss proposals.
The mayor should also use the debate to differentiate himself from Boulos, arguing that the opponent and his party do not have the experience to be at the head of a city like São Paulo.
The PSOL deputy’s campaign is betting on the debates in the final stretch — the last one, on TV Globo, will be on Thursday (3) — for the candidate to publicize proposals that can particularly reach poorer voters. Advisors state that the calibration of the confrontation with Nunes and Marçal in the event of Sheet and UOL and the level of prominence it will give to the alliance with Lula (PT).
Boulos’ team remembers that he, with more campaigns under his belt than his rivals, has experience with the time bank format. In 2020, when he also ran for mayor, he participated in the debate Sheet/UOL which already adopted this model.
The assessment is that the deputy will have an easier time finding ways out if Marçal makes distorted use of the mechanism — for example, avoiding discussing topics or reserving the final minutes to confront opponents when he realizes that they will not have time to rebut or deny him.
Strategists have advised Boulos to invest in exposing his projects to convince voters who are currently with Nunes or flirting with Marçal.
The influencer said this Sunday (29) that, “if [os próximos debates] are impartial”, will maintain a milder behavior in clashes with other candidates, as occurred at the Record event.
“I hope it will be like this tomorrow Sheet. But also if it isn’t, the stick will break. If any injustice happens, it doesn’t make sense to behave as if nothing were happening”, said Marçal.
Tabata says that the last week before the election is important for turning over votes, especially for those who are currently inclined to vote for Boulos or Nunes.
She is betting on the debates to increase the margin of votes and says she believes that the next clashes will attract the population even more — the candidate’s team is supported by the fact that half of the population indicated in the spontaneous Datafolha survey that they still don’t know who they want. vote.
In clashes with opponents, Tabata should not change his strategy. “I don’t give anyone a chair, I’m not lowly”, she states, referring to the attacks in the last debates.
“There is nothing I can do to stand out in this post. What I can do is what I have done so far, and count on greater public attention to show that our team is the most prepared and we have the best project.”
