Bolsonaro movement takes action against PSD in SP – 10/01/2024 – Panel
The Fora Moraes Movement, which aligns itself with Bolsonarist agendas such as the impeachment of minister Alexandre de Moraes (STF) and the defense of the social network X, scheduled an event for this Wednesday (2) on Avenida Paulista, one of the busiest in São Paulo, against Gilberto Kassab’s PSD.
The party became the preferred target of offensives by former president Jair Bolsonaro’s PL, amid the electoral dispute in the country — both want to consolidate themselves as the party with the largest number of city halls in municipal elections. Bolsonaro’s ally, deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) even recorded a video in which he calls Kassab’s PSD a hidden enemy.
The event takes place just a few days before the first round of municipal elections in the country, scheduled for October 6th.
Guilherme Sampaio, one of the leaders of Fora Moraes, denies that the proximity to the election influenced the call for the event, which inaugurates a different strategy of pressure for the group’s agenda, with smaller and “surprise” actions.
He states that the group has already taken other actions against the PSD — on August 29 in Belo Horizonte and on September 7 in 22 cities across the country. This Wednesday’s march has the theme “Fora Moraes – No to PSD 55”.
According to him, the intention is to increase pressure on PSD senators to get Moraes’ impeachment request to advance in the Senate.
“Today, 36 senators have already openly declared support for Alexandre’s impeachment. The PSD has 15 senators, many of them undecided or against”, says Sampaio. “So we decided to launch a national campaign to pressure the senators. They only show interest when we demand them on their bases.”
Sampaio also criticizes the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), who has already signaled that he does not intend to proceed with impeachment requests against Moraes. “We need the support of five senators to achieve urgency in the CCJ [Comissão de Constituição e Justiça] and not depend on Pacheco to guide the process. Pacheco was elected from the right.”
The smaller events will be held on weekdays, during peak times and in key locations in the cities. They will be announced no more than 48 hours in advance, without informing the City Halls. Organizers say these protests are part of a pressure tactic that “will culminate in a large demonstration planned for late October or early November.”
