Bolsonaro allies accuse Marçal of ‘political opportunism’

Allies of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) accuse the PRTB candidate for mayor of São Paulo, Pablo Marçal, of “political opportunism” for trying to compare the chair he received from José Luiz Datena (PSDB), in the TV Cultura debate on Sunday (15), to the stabbing suffered by the former president during the 2018 campaign.

Shortly after the attack, Marçal published on his social media a video with a montage showing the moment when Datena hits him with a chair, when Bolsonaro was attacked by Adélio Bispo in 2018 and also when former American president Donald Trump was shot during a rally in July of this year.

“It is unacceptable to make the comparison with the stabbing that the president suffered, which has left scars to this day. It is political opportunism. The population does not forgive,” said lawyer and former special secretary of Communications for the Bolsonaro government, Fabio Wajngarten.

Pastor Silas Malafaia, from the Assembleia de Deus Vitória em Cristo Church, classified the comparison as “mockery”.

“This is an insult, it’s a mockery. Bolsonaro was stabbed, Donald Trump was shot, attempted murder, he (Marçal) provokes the guy, unbalances him emotionally with serious and unfounded accusations, the guy loses his head and makes mistakes. I will not support violence with anything, but what about verbal violence? Did you know that most of the time verbal violence is worse than physical violence?” said Malafaia.

The pastor, who has been confronting Pablo Marçal, said that the businessman and influencer played a “meticulously planned game”.

“Donald Trump and Bolsonaro did not provoke the families of their attackers, as Pablo Marçal did with Datena and his family. I repeat, I repudiate Datena’s attitude, but I repudiate the game planned meticulously by Marçal. He did not do this now, he has been trying for days to see if anyone loses their balance and does something stupid,” he argued.
