The Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, asked the STF (Federal Supreme Court) to open an investigation against Senator Magno Malta (PL-ES) for offenses against football player Vinicius Junior.
On Tuesday (23), the parliamentarian criticized the press for “re-victimizing” the athlete by Ibope and even demanded animal cause associations to “defend the monkeys”, since the animal was being exposed.
Aras asked the court for authorization to investigate the gravity of the senator’s statements.
On Sunday (21), Vinicius Junior was the target of racism in the match between Valencia and Real Madrid. Valencia fans started shouting “mono” (“monkey” in Spanish) when the Brazilian was close to the sidelines.
A group formed by artists, players, activists, lawyers, presenters and intellectuals such as Camila Pitanga, Raí, Cléber Machado and Teresa Cristina also reacted to the statements, as shown by columnist Mônica Bergamo. They are going to activate the Ethics and Parliamentary Decorum Council of the Senate asking for the impeachment of Magno Malta’s mandate.
