Anatel accelerates against telemarketing and TV Box abuses – 10/01/2024 – Maria Inês Dolci

Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) put its foot on the accelerator, and got it right, by the way. Announced a package of measures to prevent inconvenient unsolicited telemarketing. The measure that could be most effective is the prohibition of several telephone numbers from the same company, used to harass consumers.

It will be added to the requirement that telephones used for telemarketing start with 0303, in force since June 2022. Another measure in the anti-annoyance package: telephone companies will carry out screening to guarantee the authenticity of the numbers and confirm the identity of the person responsible for the call. call.
Will everything be resolved and will we have the rare right to peace at home and at work? Probably not, but it is essential that the regulatory agency acts to at least hinder unpleasant calls that arrive at the most inappropriate times, making work, leisure and socializing with family and friends more difficult.

This tug of war, which on one side has companies that intend to shove products and services down our throats that do not interest us, and on the other, consumers, has to be mediated by Anatel. The creation of a new reporting channel will at least allow us to vent when the disturbance reaches its peak. But fines, honestly, would have more effect if they were actually paid. I would like to see the numbers of what was charged and what was actually paid.

In addition to this package, Anatel also declared war against irregular TV boxes. Last weekend (September 28th and 29th), the first edition of the TV Box Hackathon was held, a marathon to develop solutions for blocking these devices.

The event was a partnership between Anatel and Comunidade Hackathon. The best solutions were selected, with prizes that, together, totaled R$ 12 thousand.

Also in this case, whenever a solution against piracy is developed, pirates start to rely on some new technological strategy to continue defrauding. It is always good to remember that a society that does not respect contracts and legal rights reaps acidic fruits such as organized crime.
