After dinner, Salles decides to support Marçal in São Paulo – 10/02/2024 – Panel
Federal deputy Ricardo Salles (Novo-SP) decided to support Pablo Marçal’s (PRTB) campaign for São Paulo City Hall. The decision came after a dinner organized by the former minister at his home to hear the candidate.
Salles tells the Panel that the objective of the meeting was to meet Marçal and listen to him about his proposals for the city. During dinner, the influencer spoke to around 130 people and was joined by Filipe Sabará, coordinator of the government program, and Marcos Cintra, announced as Secretary of Finance if the candidate wins the election.
According to the former minister, Marçal did not shy away from questions, he spoke about controversial passages in his life, such as his arrest after being involved in a bank account embezzlement gang, and was pleased to declare that he knows he is not fully prepared to manage the city, as who has no political experience, but wants to surround himself with qualified people in all areas if elected.
The speech echoed that of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in 2018, who also acknowledged lack of knowledge regarding several topics and said that he would need the help of experts to manage the country. The main one of these names was Paulo Guedes, Minister of Economy, nicknamed by him “Posto Ipiranga”, in reference to the company’s commercial with the slogan “Question at Post Ipiranga” as an answer to all questions.
Salles says that Marçal showed frankness, humility and intelligence, and that is why he will have his support in the final stretch of the first round. In addition to the former minister, other Bolsonarists recently declared support for Marçal, such as Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) and Marco Feliciano (PL-SP).
As the Panel showed, even though he officially supports the re-election of Ricardo Nunes (MDB), Bolsonaro has not discouraged allies who join Marçal.
Salles launched a pre-candidacy for mayor of São Paulo twice, but withdrew after pressure from the PL, to which he was affiliated at the time and which supports Nunes’ re-election. Marçal absorbed for his campaign the speech made by Salles that the emedebista is centrist and that the only right-wing candidacy in São Paulo is his, repeated during dinner this Tuesday (1st).
