Active PM records for candidate in São José do Rio Preto – 09/29/2024 – Panel
São Paulo Military Police lieutenant Amália Paci recorded a video for the campaign of Coronel Fábio Cândido (PL), candidate for mayor of São José do Rio Preto, in the interior of São Paulo.
In the video, shared by Cândido on his social networks, she says that she worked directly with him, praises her colleague and states that he is the best choice for the city.
According to the regulations of the Military Police of São Paulo, police officers are obliged to refrain from using hierarchical designations in “partisan political activity, except when running for elected office”. In the case of Amália Paci, she is presented as a lieutenant in the campaign material.
Furthermore, the regulation also considers it a disciplinary offense to “discuss or provoke discussion, through any media outlet, on political, military or police matters, except those of an exclusively technical nature, when duly authorized”.
The Panel asked the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat whether the lieutenant was authorized to participate in the video, whether she requested authorization and whether any penalties were foreseen.
In response, the ministry stated that “the Military Police analyzes the images to check whether there was any infraction in the police officer’s conduct. If so, the appropriate measures will be taken.”
