Abel Ferreira apologizes for taking a journalist’s cell phone – 05/29/2023 – Sport

Palmeiras coach, Abel Ferreira, who got involved in a mess with journalists after the match against Atlético Mineiro, last Sunday (28), apologized. According to ge, Globo’s sports website, the Portuguese phoned Pedro Spinelli, producer of TV Globo in Minas, to withdraw.

The clash took place at the end of the 1-1 draw at Mineirão, in Belo Horizonte. The football director of the alviverde club, Anderson Barros, argued with Ronei Cândido Alves, the fourth referee of the game, making complaints. Abel realized that Spinelli was filming the exchange and took the cell phone out of his hands.

Another journalist, from Itatiaia radio, filmed the scene, which took place in the mixed zone of the stadium, where the presence of the press is allowed. Ferreira, then, directed his anger at this professional. “Brazilian football is like this because of your responsibility”, he shouted, repeatedly, bothered by what he called an “invasion of privacy”.

“These are football things, this is very much ours. But, unfortunately, today everyone has cameras”, he said, at the press conference, referring to the discussion with the refereeing team. “There are things that the press does not have to know. But, before it becomes a storm, these are things that happen. So, I make this clarification.”

Faced with the bad repercussion of what happened, with rejection by Aceb (Association of Sports Writers of Brazil) and criticism in several sports programs, the coach called Spinelli. According to ge’s report, commander alviverde said he did not know that the intervero area was intended precisely for journalists.

“The call lasted between three and four minutes, directly between the coach and Pedro. Abel apologized repeatedly during the video call chat and said that he only recognized that the producer was a journalist when he saw his uniform, but the discussion had already started”, described the report by ge.
